Keeping the shine, for years
Marcasite is a facet-cut pyrite, set on 925 silver. Both dread the same thing: water and humid air. Kept dry, your jewellery holds its polished-steel shine for years.
Good habits
In the box provided or a closed pouch, away from damp. An anti-humidity sachet in the box noticeably slows silver tarnish.
A soft dry cloth is enough: it removes sweat and cream marks, the first cause of tarnish.
Put it on after perfume, cream and hairspray, once your skin is dry. Take it off before showering, the pool, the sea and sport.
An impregnated cloth brings the shine back to the silver setting. Rub the metal, never the stones.
Absolutely avoid
Water seeps between the set facets and eventually loosens the marcasites. No showering, no wet hands, no steam room.
Liquid silver dip, bleach, alcohol, acetone, glass cleaner, wipes: all attack the setting and the stones' finish.
Jewellers' ultrasonic baths and stiff brushes knock marcasites loose. A soft cloth does the whole job.
Avoid sleeping in it, or keeping a marcasite ring on for washing up, cooking or cleaning.
A marcasite that moves or comes loose? Send us a photo with your order reference: depending on the piece, we'll point you the right way. We have no repair workshop, but we can recommend a jeweller.
